Deciding to start a business can be one of the
most thought decision you make in your life. There are some basic steps
required to start successfully. In the first part of my article, I will explain
you the most important steps for me, then how my professor started her business
few years ago and achieved it. Finally, I will compare that with Mary Vallender
and her beginning in Business.
When you want to start a business that’s
important to be well organized and make things in the good order. Firstly, you
need to be inspired and have an idea: you have to turn your
general idea which is often confuse and unclear into a specific idea. What will
consist your business? Who will be your customers? Then, you do some research
about the sector you want to settle. Are there other companies offering similar
products/services now? In the same way it is necessary to write and build a
business plan, it will permit to accurate your project and delineate it. Next
step is to finance your business, if
you create a small business you don’t necessary need to have a lot of money
only an initial investment. After, you have to register your business name. The
last one, which is for me one of the most important step is promote your activity thought friends,
contacts and relationships. Also, across social media, a good website,
marketing campaign etc.
My professor started her business in 2005 with
her company called « Chicago Chocolate Tours ». She had the idea
of a Chocolate Tour when she was a 19 year old student in Paris, she fell in
love with a truly fine chocolate. She started with bringing her friend in
France to try chocolate and excursions. After studies in law, she decided to
create her own business but she had not money and no clients only the idea.
During the start, Valerie Beck had to reinforce efforts to find customers, talk
about her project to friends and her network. She tried to create a website to promote
her first event Tour Degustation but nobody came. She turned to chocolate shops
and industry in order to be known. Finally, it worked! The key words of her
success are patience, determination and a good network.
Regarding Mary Vallender, it is quite similar.
She worked in a marketing company during many years and one day she decided to
change her career and became a real estate agent, here her agence. She had no business plan, no money
and no customers. Mary has to build solid relationships by sending e-mail, fixing
appointments, meeting people from different groups, getting some business
cards. She did a lot of networking, research, demonstrate her skills in order
to create her own credibility and to be reliable. She collaborated with
different people to have a network in Downtown, the district favored by
prestige apartments. After that, people refers to her. The success of Mary is
due to an important networking and her
credibility.
